Opportunity Won't Knock If You Don't Have A Door

I've been reading At Liberty To Say for more than two years now, but this is my first time submitting.

This past week, two events, that I think most of us would see as major draws, happened in the Upstate.

The Atlanta Braves major league baseball team stopped through Liberty and ate lunch at Yanks - all without nary a hint of the visit from The City Of Liberty. No mention on twitter, facebook, or indirectly through the press.

How did I find out about it? Philip's website. Philip's facebook. Philip's Liberty Monitor [social media] pages.

On Friday, Congressman Jeff Duncan conducted a 2nd Amendment Rights Tour of his district. There were no stops on this tour scheduled for Pickens County. The last time I looked we have one of the premeire hunting and fishing stores in the Upstate, right here in Liberty. Why didn't the Mayor or Council contact Jeff Duncan and ask him to stop at Garner's Hunting & Fishing?

When was the last time libertychamberofcommerce.com has been updated? What about libertysc.com?

This is how the majority of people will find us. As a city, we have no "presence".

I never see events in "What's happening" newsletters - email or print. About the only thing I see other than Philip's website which seems to garner quite a bit of attention, is puff pieces with hyperbole about the condition of the city when it seems the finances are shambles. All I see is consumer watchdog reports about the city mishandling an issue. All I see is proposals for tax increase after tax increase with no promise or plan. All I see is money wasted on projects that have no impact on our taxbase and then these projects are justified by saying they didn't cost the taxpayer anything or that "special" monies were used to fund the project.

I read the piece last week about giving credit to Philip for being a positive leader and public relations example in this community. I wholeheartedly agree with the assessment.

Opportunity won't knock if you don't have a welcome mat. Opportunity can't even knock if you don't have a door.

* Philip, please help me with some pictures and links in this post if you can and correct any bad grammar. Thank you. I'd rather you not use my name.
